Happy Thanksgiving

To all of our friends and family,
Kevin and I would like to wish you a happy Thanksgiving! You all have played very important roles in mine and in Kevin's lives and we wouldn't be who we are today without you.
We are extremely thankful for each of you this holiday season and always!

Kevin and I will be in Kansas City this week to celebrate Thanksgiving with his family. I can't wait to meet all of you and see how your families' cooking compares to mine. :) Just kidding!

I have debated whether or not to write this post for a week now. Last week I received a call that will forever change my life and that someone that I loved and admired was killed in a plane crash. Jerry Smith was not a normal pilot, but truly an exceptional pilot and the best pilot ever. Some people would disagree with me on this saying that Chuck Yeager or Bob Hoover or some other famous pilot was the best ever. But these two pilots were military pilots and flew for the military. Yeah they broke the sound barrier and flew faster than almost everyone. This never benefited general aviation. Jerry never flew for the military but every pilot that has ever flown a Stormscope or a Garmin product had Jerry's blessing. Jerry always has been at the tip of leading edge avionics and flew them because he knew other pilots would have to rely on them.

While I got to fly with Jerry on several occasions in his Cardinal and Super Decathlon these are not the only memories that I will treasure. Jerry enjoyed the outdoors and invited me several times to go hunting with him. Jerry was there for my first turkey and if you ever heard me tell this story you would almost not believe. Jerry always laughed when I had to tell this story to someone new. Jerry and I were out again this spring for Missouri turkey season and while we disagreed on how many we actually saw (I still think we only saw one close enough to shoot).

While I only got to know Jerry for only about 6 years it was 6 years that I will never forget. Jerry was like a father to me but he was also like a father to many others just not Scott and Chris. I will truly miss Jerry. Scott and Sandy you are in my prayers. Many people have been saying blue skies to Jerry but Jerry liked gray skies and I know that he enjoying those right now.
